RESCUE - RACCOON
Raccoons require long-term rehabilitative care, so occasionally TWRC must limit admissions. Call to make sure caging is available for your baby raccoon(s) to eliminate an unnecessary trip to the Shelter. If TWRC doesn't have room, we can offer a referral.
Although the risk of rabies is very slight, please do not handle any raccoon without wearing heavy gloves. Take all precautions when handling any rabies vector species.
Call TWRC if you need help or advice in containing this type of animal.
Baby Raccoon
If you find baby raccoons, although the risk of rabies is very slight, please do not handle the babies without wearing gloves.
Please keep them warm, contained, and in a quiet place and DO NOT give them anything to eat or drink.
Adult Raccoon
TWRC DOES NOT accept adult raccoons for rehab. Pet Paws, a clinic in Conroe, will accept injured adult raccoons. Please call them at 1-936-756-0304.
If you try to contain an adult yourself, which is NOT recommended, do so very very carefully as they can, and will, bite, even through welding gloves!
