POEM TO VOLUNTEERS

Sandy Boutte, Membership Director for the Shelter, received a very special Christmas poem written by her father, Richard Gray, dedicated to all TWRC volunteers.

Ode to TWRC

Twas 4 weeks before Xmas and Santa'd already been here,
To TWRC admitting, a dozen presumably sick reindeer.
To his amazement, Roz Even decreed,
they'd be just fine If only he would lock up the liquor and wine.

So for this very reason, the staff couldn't wait,
For him to return on the 24th date.
Knowing it unlikely that Santa would sooner arrive,
They started the celebration on Dec 1 two hours past five.

The staff and volunteers were there in their best,
With Petey on the floor and Peeps in his nest.
The rest of the creatures were not to be found,
They were all in rehabbers homes safe and sound.

Food and drinks were consumed in office, vet and admission room
While Christmas Carols were sung, mostly out of tune.
There was talk of birds, squirrels, possums, and coons.
Some of whom suffered the strangest of wounds.

This is when TWRC really shows its stuff
As no task to save an animal is ever too tough.
So at Christmas time or whenever kind thanks are due
You mustn't over look this hard working crew.

But wait, just a minute I hear on the roof
A scratching and stomping, an animal hoof?
Yes by golly, look there to the rear
Looks like a dozen of Santa's drunken reindeer.

Oh well, being wrong is just part of the game
And though we don't expect to earn any fame
As soon as this party comes to its end
We'll rehab some reindeers, and to Santa we'll send.

Please keep up the good work, as long as you can.
I'm sure you are being watched from above, by the Man.
Thanks to all of you for your dedication and care.
There's a spot for you in Heaven when you all get up there.
